What do we hope to find on the page? Delight, shock, excellence, truth, news-in its original sense, and something we didn’t expect. You never know what you might find. This is BRICK-unmissable. And not the same old story. — Margaret Atwood

Submissions
To all of our submitters: As of January 31, 2007, Brick will no longer be accepting submissions via e-mail. Our goal in opening the magazine up to electronic submissions was to create greater ease-of-use for people interested in sending us work, but unfortunately, over the course of this experiment, we received an overwhelming number of submissions in this format, and we found there were just too many for us to handle expediently. So we regret to announce that we are now returning to a mail-only submissions policy.
Brick accepts unsolicited submissions of non-fiction on a variety of subjects. We would like to stress that if you are interested in writing for us, you should familiarize yourself with the magazine before submitting by mail. For those who don’t have access to the magazine itself, we do publish excerpts from our current issue on this site, which will help to give you a sense of what we publish. Query letters are not necessary, but if you are in doubt as to whether your work matches our style, please do read an issue to see. We caution you ahead of time that we do not accept fiction or poetry submissions at all. The poetry and fiction that appear in Brick are solicited by the editorial board, as Brick is primarily a magazine of literary non-fiction. All fiction and poetry submissions will be returned unread.
Response time for submissions is three to six months, for which we apologize in advance. We read everything we get, and carefully, but Brick is a small operation. To ease the process somewhat, we do accept simultaneous submissions, but ask that you let us know if your submission is accepted for publication elsewhere. We prefer submissions to be typed and double-spaced, and ask that you send an SASE (with appropriate Canadian postage or an international reply coupon) for us to respond with, or an e-mail address if you don’t require the manuscript back. Please check our contact page for mailing details.
Many thanks,
Michael Redhill and the editors of Brick
